Programme
The Year 12 Programme at CIC is a preparatory course, designed to develop individual students' English language needs and to prepare them academically for their NCEA Level 3 University Entrance year. At this level, it is most important that students have mastered the basic English language and then to develop their academic English - in the context of the subjects they want to study for the University Entrance year.
Entry Requirements
- IELTS 4.5; or
- Students can satisfy the Principal / Director of Studies that they are proficient in English language
This course introduces the students to some of the more independent study tools and techniques most commonly encountered in the New Zealand education system. It also provides an opportunity for students to become more confident with subjects they may not have encountered in their own country. Using some of the terms and concepts present in subjects such as Mathematics, Economics, Accounting and Physics, students learn how to apply the following skills:
The four dominant learning styles:
- Mind-mapping and other memory techniques
- Research skills and library use
- Interpreting graphs and diagrams
- Summarising and analysing information

All students are required to complete the following subjects in order to gain their Year 12 Academic Preparation Certificate
Compulsory subjects:
- English language
- Economics
- Mathematics
- Computing
Choose one of the following:
EITHER Physics and Accounting or Art (Painting & Design)
